You all have received advice like add a daily dose of nature to your routine to be happier and healthier. But our lifestyles barely allow us to do so. A trip to Tabriz could be one of those rare occasions when you can spend quality time in nature. The only thing you need to do is to put Arasbaran Forest on your itinerary.
Extended over 78660 hectares, Arasbaran Forest has listed as a wildlife sanctuary by UNESCO in 1976. It is home to varied flora and fauna as well as endemic, priority and rare species. The forest is a 3-hour drive from Tabriz and is best to visit in spring or summer. You can also visit ancient castles and historical monuments in the area.
Babak Fort area is perched on the edge of a high mountain in Arasbaran and is most of the times shrouded in fog. The fort has a history going back to the Sassanid era when it served as Babak Khorramdin’s stronghold. Babak Khorramdin, the leader of the Khorram-Dinan movement, was a prominent Azerbaijani commander and political figure who fought the Arab invasion. Today, Azerbaijanis head to the castle during the first weekend of every July to pay homage to Babak.
In addition to Babak Fort, historical monuments including Pashtoo, Joushin and Qahqah-e castles built on the lap of pristine nature turn Arasbaran into a real heaven on earth which makes every visitor fall in love with it at first sight.
