During the Qajar period, high-profile public figures such as politicians, merchants and landlords ordered eminent architects to build marvelous houses to show off their power and social status to others. Today, Iranians are proud of those architectural masterpieces.
Most of the historical houses of Kashan date back to the 18th and 19th century. Technically speaking, all Iranian traditional houses have three courtyards: Andaruni (an interior section where family members lived), Biruni (the exterior section for entertaining and housing guests) and khadame (the servants’ quarters).
Last but not least, there are several old residential buildings left from 19th and 20th centuries in Kashan. The most famous ones are Borujerdi House, Tabatabaee-ha House, Abasian House, and Ameri House.
